Guitar Workshop with Hiroya Tsukamoto

Intermediate Guitar Skill Level (basic chord/note knowledge) suggested.

One-of-a-kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan Hiroya Tsukamoto will demonstrate fingerstyle techniques (playing with the fingers in place of a pick), including chords and basic theory.

Using his compositions as an example, Hiroya will demonstrate how to start composing an original guitar piece. Learn the elements of song structure, including intros, verses, choruses, bridges, and outros, and how to distill a composition down to its essence. Hiroya shares what he cares about when composing.

He began playing the five-string banjo when he was thirteen, and took up the guitar shortly after. Now, Hiroya has been leading concerts internationally including several appearances at Blue Note in New York City with his group and Japanese National Television(NHK). In 2018, Hiroya won 2nd place in International Finger Style Guitar Championship.

HiroyaTsukamoto plays with fluid mastery, pristine tone, and great
warmth, taking us on an impressionistic journey.

Location of the Guitar Workshop is 120 Elm Street, behind Beacon Hall. Admission is $25. Spaces are very limited and are expected to sell out.
